Our Remote Education Provision

Remote education at St Mary's will only ever be considered as a last resort where a decision has been made that attendance at school is not possible, but pupils are able to continue learning.  This would be when the school has no alternative but to close.

What should my child expect from remote education?

A pupil’s first day or two of being educated remotely might look different from our standard approach, while we take all necessary actions to prepare for a longer period of remote teaching.  We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school, wherever possible.  

Teachers will provide daily Maths and English lessons and weekly lessons for all other subjects.  Details of work to be completed will be posted on Class Dojo by class teachers each day of school closure.  We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly a minimum of 3 hours per day.  Unlimited access of Purple Mash is available for children who wish to do more.

If my child does not have digital or online access at home, how will you support them to access remote education? 

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home.  If this is the case, parents may request a paper pack containing work for their child to complete.

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home? 

The school will keep a weekly record of work that children complete.  Staff can expect children and parents to:

• complete work to the deadline set by teachers
• seek help if they need it from teachers
• alert teachers if they are unable to complete work
• make school aware if their child is unwell and therefore unable to complete work
• parents should support their child by setting routines for the completion of work and provide a quiet learning space.

How will you work with me to help my child who needs additional support from adults at home to access remote education? 

We recognise that some pupils, for example some pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), may not be able to access remote education without support from adults at home. We acknowledge the difficulties this may place on families, and we will work with parents and carers to support those pupils by setting work appropriate to the children's levels of understanding.
